Gary, Indiana Is Another Reason We Need Active Leadership

This week Gary, Indiana suffered a major storm that devastation the city. Seven people were killed and damages to property is estimated to be in the millions. However, it was after the storm that caused so much controversy. Much like the remanence of slavery, leaving black Americans foe dead or to fend for themselves is the name of the game. The city knew this storm was coming. No surprise there. What's infuriating is the lack of care on full display. Many in the city believed at best a couple of days they would be inconvenience, until that couple of days turned into one week then that week turned into another. After public outcry, the story began to spread and the pressure was on. Many people in the public eye like influencer, Keith Lee and NBA star Tyrese Halliburton decided to team up and bring food and resources to the city while providing entertainment as well. But to be honest, this isn't right. We are continually trying indirectly to prove to people why we belong, why we deserve to live, but why? Much like this story, many stories similar go unnoticed or dismissed to the main character. We're always the victim due to our circumstances and were just left to deal. I'm sick of it. As I was preparing for this very story, my frustration boiled over on my live via social media and I made an obvious but true statement. This would have never happened in Beverly Hills, or Manhattan or any other majority white country club city. No way. But we just accept it. We are conditions to accept scraps, because at least it's from the table. Even with our rich history as trendsetters and idealist, it never seems to be enough in times of tragedy. What also is frustrating is the so-called leader in the White House is nowhere to be seen, but are we surprised. No. He's more interested in retaliation and ballrooms and finding out ways he can stay in power after 2028. It's exhausting. But like always, if it's one thing we do as people, we "figure" it out, and by figure it out, I mean we do what we can with what we have for the time being. Survival of the fittest. We have seen how we were handled during Hurricane Katrina, and we see this. But like Katrina, we got up and pressed on. We took the abuse and lies and made amends all for the name of peace. Sooner or later peace may come at someone's expense. America owes so much to black citizen and going along to get along when there is travesty at play is something that is wearing thin with us and someone may pay a price.
