In what was one of the most watched races of the night on Tuesday, March 3, 2026 Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett and Congressman James Talarico, both from Texas went head-to-head for a potential seat for Senate this November. As with much of everything, this race also had controversy all the way up to the end, and of course Black women getting the short end of the stick per usual. The night began with a large lead for Crockett. She and her team kept us informed throughout the night about what they expected but were cautious as to Talarico's ability to catch up soon. They stayed poised, ready, and affirmed in their campaign. As the night went on, Talarico's lead began to overpower Crockett which later that morning Crockett conceded her race and vowed to work with Talarico. But of course, black women who work hard and play by the rules always have things taken from them purposely. Prior to this race from years pass, it was widely known if you are voting in a primary election, you have the ability to vote anywhere withing your county. This was something that Democrats and Republicans had to agree on. It was only within the last couple months when redistricting changed (primarily to give Republicans and advantage) that the rules were changed unbeknownst to voters so that when they stood in line and were ready to cast their ballot, they would be told they would have to vote within their zip code. A judge immediately began to do damage control by giving polling areas an additional two hours to remain open while voters find their nearest polling place. Within moments of that ruling, the Texas Supreme Court overrode the judge's ruling, saying votes casted after the deadline mark would be "set aside" and assessed later, basically handing over the win to Talarico. It was deliberate and well thought out to do this to ensure that Talarico gets the win. For all intense purposes, Talarico is a good man. I've been following him for a while and everything about him points to decency. He's a minister, a schoolteacher, a congressman, and a leader who calls out white nationalist about their own hypocrisy, so this is not necessarily about him. It's about the blatant disrespect of another black women who has been fighting for the rights of other people outside of her district to ensure there are checks and balances across Texas and America and to hold our officials accountable. She was too "outspoken" too "loud" too "aggressive" they say. In laments terms, she was too "unapologetically black", and the establishment feared her for good reason. I believe she was going to win if the Republican based Texas Supreme Court did not intervene. They knew that, so they did what they always do when they fear change, legally oppress the opposition. So where do we go from here? Whatever roll or position Crockett decides to be in, we must support her. We must not demand anything of her other than to continue to shake tables in rooms the establishment never wanted her to be in. She is one of us. She did what she was supposed to do and for that, a salute is granted. Congratulations on a hard-fought battle, Congresswoman Crockett. We're proud of you.
